“A MORE fun Limerick” is what’s being promised for this year’s St Patrick’s Festival on Shannonside, with a host of family-friendly fun for the young and young at heart lined up from March 15 to 17.

That’s according to Limerick City and County Council, who this week released the programme events for the 2025 St Patrick’s Festival.

The Council said that this year’s festival theme is ‘A More Fun Limerick’, which “sets the stage for a vibrant celebration filled with creativity, community spirit, and endless entertainment”.

Included in this year’s celebration in the city will be numerous street performances, a post-parade block party, and the chance to hear some fireside tales about the history and legends around Ireland’s patron saint.

For the little ones, the ‘Snail’s Tale’ will provide “a delightful performance that will enchant children and families alike”, while an interactive theatre experience dubbed ‘The Most Dangerous Animal in the World’ will provide insight into “an exiled sheep’s adventurist spirit”.

Food and celebrations will also be on offer at the Milk Market and Wickham Way.

For late-night revellers, Clover the Rainbow offers a fun-filled comedy drag show packed with performances, games, and dancing.

In the county, Spraoi in the Marquee will mark Abbeyfeale as a must for the St Patrick’s weekend, along with a showcase of Limerick fashion scene in Patrickswell.

The fun and games will all be topped off by the Limerick St Patrick’s Day parade (Monday March 17), led out by Olympic medalist Róisín Ní Ríain, and the 53rd International Band Championship (Sunday March 16) – which will be followed by a musical jamboree at Arthur’s Quay Park as the winners are announced.

The St Patrick’s Day parade will follow the same route as last year, while the International Band Championship route will this year kick off from the junction of O’Connell Street and Barrington Street, with a universal access viewing area at The Crescent.

Looking ahead to this year’s line-up, Mayor John Moran said he is “excited to be part of Limerick’s St Patrick’s Day celebrations this year, my first as Mayor”.

“This year’s theme, ‘A More Fun Limerick’, truly captures the essence of Limerick and of course having fun is a key ingredient in making it one of the best places to live in Europe.

“I invite everyone to join in celebrating our rich culture and heritage with a touch of fun and excitement. I look forward to welcoming visitors from near and far to experience the magic of our events and the warmth of our community.”
