LIMROCKERS Dylan Flynn & The Dead Poets are celebrating their latest EP, Caught Up in Delusion, with an Irish tour stopping at Dolans Warehouse this Saturday. This new release follows their acclaimed 2023 debut album, ‘How Are You Feeling Today?’, which landed on Hot Press’s ‘Irish Debut Albums’ list alongside notable names like Grian Chatten and Somebody’s Child.
Known for their authentic DIY style, the band blends indie-rock with pop elements, drawing comparisons to acts like The War on Drugs and Springsteen.
Their lyrics often delve into the struggles facing young Irish people today. In 2023, the band sold out shows across the UK and Ireland, amassing over a million streams and sharing stages with NewDad and Kingfishr, marking them as a promising act to watch.
Their new EP brings a fresh sound, introducing “Indie-Twang,” a fusion of indie-rock, Irish folk, and Americana. The opener, ‘Behind Those Tears,’ is an upbeat anthem about seeking clarity amid emotional turmoil, featuring a massive chorus. “It’s about wanting to see behind the tears,” Flynn says, “to appreciate what’s really going on rather than wallowing.”
Next, ‘The Story After They’re Gone’ reflects on loss and isolation, pairing soft guitar with pedal steel and saxophone. Flynn shares, “We wanted this track to feel like how we play live, and that’s been a focus for this project.”
‘When I Was Young,’ another standout, is a nostalgic piece with Americana influences, reflecting on change and the bittersweet longing for simpler times.
The EP closes with ‘Not Waiting on Anything,’ a minimalist mix of alt-country, Irish folk, and electronica that explores themes of loss and regret. The release also includes three bonus tracks: a live version of their housing crisis anthem, ‘Nowhere to Live,’ and stripped-back versions of ‘The Story After They’re Gone’ and ‘When I Was Young.’
Recorded in their Limerick studio and at Black Mountain Studios in Dundalk, the EP was co-produced with Mike Gavin (Windings) and mastered by Richard Dowling (Foo Fighters, Villagers).
Support on the night includes sets from The Clause and Cliffords, followed by an After Show Party with DJ Eric Fitz playing indie, alternative, and disco.
