JOINING IN on the cultural extravaganza set to take place across Irish Design Week, two arty events will be taking place on Shannonside.
Limerick’s contribution to the national design week, taking place from November 11 to 15, will be hosted by the Limerick School of Art and Design.
The ‘Wonders of Wool’ workshop is set to invite emerging artists and designers to showcase their latest projects and pieces designed around Irish wool.
The Limerick School of Art and Design will also host a ‘Dining and Design” evening, which will see culturally curious guests take part in a three-course dinner complemented by talks relating to the experience of dining – including architecture, interior design, ceramics, textiles, and furniture design.
The events are two among 40 taking place across Irish Design Week, exploring the theme of ‘Imagination for Opportunity’.
One of the objectives of this year’s theme is innovating new solutions relating to the climate emergency, the housing crisis, and issues around social inclusion.
Each day of Irish Design Week will also feature a ‘Design Diplomacy’ event, in which an Irish designer meets an international designer for a creative discussion. The concept was originally developed by Helsinki Design Week and brings together designers over a card game of questions.
The aim of Irish Design Week, organisers say, is to showcase Ireland’s strong history in design, highlighting “the many facets of contemporary design”.
