ALONE, a national charity helping older people to age at home, is seeking volunteers in Limerick for its telephone support and befriending service.

The charity said that by participating in the vital services, volunteers can give crucial human connection to those who may otherwise feel disconnected from their community.

The charity added that Ireland, the loneliest country in Europe according to the European Commission, needs community involvement to protect mental health among older people.

ALONE CEO Seán Moynihan put out the call in Limerick for “anybody with a few hours to spare in their week to consider volunteering with ALONE’s telephone support and befriending service”.
