CONVICTED wife killer, Richard Satchwell, who is currently being held at Cloverhill Prison, Dublin, is expected to be returned to Limerick Prison to serve his life sentence, security sources said.
Satchwell, (58), was convicted by a jury last week of murdering his wife Tina, (45), and burying her body at their home in Youghal, Co Cork, in March 2017.
A jury at the Central Criminal Court returned a unanimous guilty verdict, rejecting the English truck driverโs claims that he acted in self-defence.
For six years prior to his arrest, Satchwell courted the media and participated in numerous public appeals for information, claiming Tina fled their home with their life savings and was missing without trace.
In reality, twisted Satchwell killed his wife, lay with her body that night, and stored her body in a chest freezer until he excavated a makeshift grave under the stairs in their home at Grattan Street, in the Cork coastal town and buried her under cement.
It took the jury just over ten hours to reach their unanimous verdict but Satchwell was to be sentenced this Wednesday, to the mandatory term of life in prison, of at least 20 years.
A prison source said it is likely that Satchwell will initially be returned to Limerick Prison where he had been held up until he was transferred to Cloverhill Prison in order to be located near the Central Criminal Court throughout his five-week trial.
โItโs anticipated he will return to Limerick Prison to serve out his life sentence, that is likely, it would be considered normal protocol,โ said a reliable source.
โIt will be confirmed once he is formally sentenced on Wednesday, but it is likely he will return to Limerick,โ they added.
Itโs emerged that Satchwell had been sharing an isolation wing at Limerick Prison with former Sinn Fein councillor Jonathanย Dowdall who was previously charged with murdering Kinehan cartel gangster David Byrne at Dublinโs Regency Hotel, but is serving a four year sentence in Limerick after he pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of facilitating the Hutch crime gang in Byrneโs killing.
Satchwell, and Dowdall, who has a cleaning job at the prison, were also sharing the isolation D1 landing with transgender inmate Barbie Kardashian, who the courts heard was born a man named Gabrielle Alejandro Gentile, but who identifies as a woman.
Satchwell had carved out a job as a cook in the Limerick jail, preparing meals for both prisoners and staff alike and is expected to return to the position granted only to well behaved inmates.
Satchwell will be entitled to apply to serve out part of his sentence in his native UK, where he still has family.
