THE Desmond O’Grady International Poetry Competition 2025 has been awarded to Jamie O’Halloran.
Her winning poem, LEAF, was described as “shot-through with the attributes of what makes a piece of writing a poem”, according to competition judge Anne Fitzgerald.
Jamie has published five chapbooks including The Visible Woman and Corona Connemara and Half a Crown.
Her poems appear in Poetry Ireland Review, Southword, Crannóg, One Hand Clapping, Banshee, and Prairie Schooner. Desmond O’Grady, for whom the competition was named, was a Limerick poet described as one of the senior figures in Irish literary life.

The winning poem will be available to read on the Limerick Writers’ Centre website.
