Winner of 2025 Desmond O’Grady International Poetry Competition announced

Competition winner Jamie O'Halloran with Dominic Taylor and Anne Fitzgerald.

THE Desmond O’Grady International Poetry Competition 2025 has been awarded to Jamie O’Halloran.

Her winning poem, LEAF, was described as “shot-through with the attributes of what makes a piece of writing a poem”, according to competition judge Anne Fitzgerald.

Jamie has published five chapbooks including The Visible Womanย andย Corona Connemara andย Half a Crown.

Her poems appear inย Poetry Ireland Review, Southword, Crannรณg, One Hand Clapping, Banshee, and Prairie Schooner. Desmond O’Grady, for whom the competition was named, was a Limerick poet described as one of the senior figures in Irish literary life.

The winning poem will be available to read on the Limerick Writers’ Centre website.
