ONE of Limerick City and County Council’s (LCCC) top table executives, Gordon Daly, who has served as a Director of Service and more recently as its Deputy Director General, is moving on to the top seat at the table at Clare County Council (CCC).
Responsible for key areas such as corporate services, human resources and organisational development during his time in Merchants Quay, Mr Daly has more than 25 years’ experience in local government.
A native of Clare, he has worked in Limerick since 2015 before receiving the call home.
Extending congratulations to Gordon on his appointment as the chief executive of CCC, LCCC deemed him an invaluable member of its team, “serving with dedication and distinction in his role as Deputy Director General and Director of Corporate Services, Human Resources and Organisational Development”.
During his tenure in Limerick, Daly played a pivotal role in key initiatives that significantly contributed to the region’s development.
He was instrumental in advancing the Limerick Tourism Development Strategy and also championed the development of the Limerick Greenway.
Gordon was also a driving force behind the establishment of the Limerick Regional Athletics Hub in Newcastle West. He played a key role in the transition of LCCC to a new governance structure following the election of Ireland’s first directly-elected mayor in June 2024.
Mayor of Limerick John Moran this week extended a heartfelt congratulations to Gordon on his appointment at Clare County Council.
“He leaves a legacy of dedication to public service and local government here in Limerick. This will undoubtedly serve our neighbours in Clare well as it continues to grow and prosper, benefiting the entire Mid West region,” Mayor Moran said.
“With new formal working relationships like the Project Ireland 2040 Delivery Board, on which we will now both serve, I look forward to embarking on a new chapter with Clare County Council under Gordon’s guidance. I wish Gordon the very best in his new role,” Mayor Moran said.
Director General of Limerick City and County Council, Dr Pat Daly, took the view that Limerick’s loss is Clare’s gain.
“Gordon’s dedication and hard work have been instrumental in driving forward our goals for Limerick and we are immensely grateful for his service. We wish him all the best in his new role and look forward to continuing our collaborative relationship with Clare County Council with Gordon at the helm,” he said.
