FOLLOWING the tremendous success of their previous self-penned, sell-out productions Southside Story, Is She Dead Yet, For the Love and Honour, Rocky Hill (adapted into a short film), and the short film Web of Deceit, the Southill Community Drama Group returns once more with an exciting new original play โ A Little Bit of Magic.
This year, the group finds itself in the unique and delightful position of performing a play written especially for them. The granddaughter of cast member Mona Gardiner was so inspired after attending last yearโs performance of Rocky Hill at the Life Centre that she took it upon herself to write a script tailored specifically with the group in mind.
A Little Bit of Magic follows a group of care home residents on a day trip to the Burren, accompanied by their driver, carer, and event organiser. Upon arrival, the group is left in the company of a tour guide who promptly steps away to take an urgent call. Feeling abandoned and unimpressed, the residents decide to explore the Burren on their own โ only to become lost in the wilds.
As they attempt to find their way back, tensions mount and long-held secrets among the residents begin to surface. Things take a whimsical turn with the appearance of an enchanting faery who is determined to have her historical fantasy taken seriously. Will the group manage to return safely to the centre? Find out in this hilarious and fast-paced comedy as the adventure โ and the chase โ unfolds!
Director Karen Fitzgibbon told Limerick Post, โThere is huge excitement building during rehearsals for this much anticipated community production.ย The Southill Mens Sheds have been working on our set pieces and the cast and crew are gathering costumes and props to bring this show to life.โ
