THERE was craic agus ceol aplenty at Shannon Airport as a band as spectacular as an event that ran for seven years, before having to be abandoned during the Covi19 pandemic, stuck a chord once more.

Over 160 primary school students, including from Milford National School in Limerick along with a number of County Clare primary schools – Ennis National School, St Fiannachtaโ€™s National School, and Knockanean National School –ย  gathered at the terminal at Shannon Airport for the reinstatement of the annual Schools Band Spectacular.

This event, which had been a tradition for seven consecutive years before the Covid-19 pandemic, saw school bands perform at the airport, providing a soundtrack for passengers with fiddles, banjos, harps, tin whistles, and more.

Welcoming the students back to Shannon after the seven-year pause, Shannon Airport director Niall Kearns said: โ€œWe hosted the Schools Band Spectacular for seven years up to 2020, and we are thrilled to have the schools perform for passengers once again.”

Mr Kearns said that “Shannon Airport is deeply embedded in the
community here, and events like this help us strengthen our ties with the region”.

โ€œThereโ€™s always great excitement among the children when they arrive at Shannon Airport. Itโ€™s a fun day for us as much as it is for the students. This event is all about providing these talented children with an opportunity to play music for and with their peers, and it was wonderful to see so many passengers and guests enjoying the
performances.โ€
