THRESHOLD, the national housing charity, officially opened its new regional office in Limerick, with the help of a €350,000 donation from the JP McManus Benevolent Fund.

The opening took place on April 9, with the ribbon cut by Mayor John Moran at the new regional office on Steamboat Quay in Limerick City.

Threshold said that the new headquarters will allow the service a “significant expansion across the Mid Western region”, and will “serve as the central hub for Threshold’s service team in the region, providing crucial support to tenants around their rights”.

In 2024 alone, Threshold’s regional team in the Mid West assisted 1,121 households with vital advice and free and confidential support to help tenants facing homelessness to stay in their homes.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mayor Moran said that the new Threshold office “marks a significant step forward in strengthening the services available to renters across Limerick city and county, and the rest of the Mid West”.

“By having Threshold’s services directly available in Limerick, more people can receive the guidance and support they need to maintain secure homes.”

The purchase of the building was financed mainly through a €350,000 donation from the JP McManus Benevolent Fund.

Helen O’Donnell, board member of the JP McManus Benevolend Fund, said that the organisation was “proud to contribute to the important advice and advocacy work that Threshold do in the area of renters’ rights to ensure families and individuals can remain in their homes – not only in Limerick, but across the Mid Western region”.

“Threshold is unique in the services and supports that it provides for this sector, and by contributing to its footprint in the region, we can be sure that more renters will be able to access the support they need to stay in their homes.”

The new office will be open to the public Tuesdays to Fridays from 9.30am to 4pm on Steamboat Quay, while Threshold will also be hosting additional appointments at the Citizens Information Centre on Henry Street in Limerick City on the first and third Thursdays of every month.

Appointments can be booked by visiting threshold.ie or by calling 1800 454 454. The Threshold helpline is open weekdays from 9am to 9pm.
