Motorcyclist killed in tragic road crash in County Limerick

A MOTORCYCLIST has been killed in a tragic road crash in Askeaton, County Limerick.

The fatal crash took place last night (Wednesday) shortly before 8pm on the N69 at Cloonreask.

Gardaí said that the single-vehicle crash took the life of a motorcyclist in his 30s, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

“His body has been removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Limerick where a post-mortem examination will take place in due course,” a Garda statement read.

The road remains closed for technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators this Thursday morning and local diversions are in place.

In the wake of the tragic road death, Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to the incident to come forward.

“Any road users who may have camera footage (including dashcam) and were travelling on the N69 near Askeaton between 7.15pm and 8.15pm on Wednesday are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí,” Gardaí said.

Speaking last night, Fine Gael city councillor Adam Teskey said the surrounding community was “in total shock at the devastating events on the N69”.

“My thoughts are obviously with the family, and I’d like to thank the emergency services that attended the scene, the town is in deep shock and sadness.”
