CLARE County Council is launching the 2025 tourism season with the third annual ‘Be a Tourist in Your Own County Clare’ weekend on April 12 and 13. 

The initiative offers locals and visitors free and half-price admission to many of Clare’s top attractions and cultural events.

Residents and visitors alike are being encouraged to explore County Clare, whether by revisiting favourite spots or uncovering hidden gems. To support this, many of Clare’s top attractions are offering discounted or free admission on the weekend of 12–13 April.

Participating sites include: Ailwee Burren Experience, Alpaca Walk with the Flying Alpaca, Bunratty Castle and Folk Park, Burren Smokehouse, Burren Visitor Centre Kilfenora, Caherconnell Fort and Sheepdog Demonstrations, Charm Bee Studios, Cliffs of Moher Experience, Doolin Cave, Doolin Ferry, Killaloe River Cruises, Lahinch Leisure Centre, Loop Head Lighthouse, Moher Hill Open Farm, Postcard Perfect Photowalk, Shannon Aviation Museum, Vandeleur Walled Garden and Visitor Centre, Wilde Irish Chocolates, Irish Seed Savers (self-guided tour), Clare Museum Ennis (free admission), and local events such as the Lahinch Traditional Festival and Music Makers of West Clare.

Councillor Alan O’Callaghan, Cathaoirleach of Clare County Council, described the weekend as “the perfect opportunity to experience the rich heritage, stunning landscapes, and unique activities that make County Clare a standout destination.”

He added, “Attractions involved in previous years reported a huge rise in footfall. I’m delighted to see this campaign return as the 2025 tourist season begins.”

Siobhán McNulty, Director of Services for Tourism Development, noted that the campaign is about reconnecting with Clare. “It’s a chance for locals to rediscover their county, and I commend the attractions offering such generous discounts.”

Sean Lally, Chair of the Clare Tourism Advisory Forum, highlighted the importance of domestic tourism. “Clare tourism operators are always finding new ways to promote the county. This initiative is key to building on the momentum from previous years.”

Deirdre O’Shea, Head of Tourism, Clare County Council, added, “This campaign gives a timely boost to local providers facing rising costs. The people of Clare are our greatest ambassadors—we want to remind them of the treasures in their own backyard.”
