EDUCATION Minister Helen McEntee was asked by Sinn Féin TD Maurice Quinlivan if plans are in progress for a redress scheme for people who suffered either physical or mental abuse in school.
In response, Minister McEntee said that the Department takes child protection very seriously and is keenly aware of the importance of action on the issue of historical sexual abuse to survivors.
“A high-level interdepartmental group has been established to advise on the terms of reference for the Commission. The group expects to report to the Minister for Education on its deliberations in the coming weeks,” she told Deputy Quinlivan in the Dáil.
