THE ACHIEVEMENTS of President of the Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) Declan Madden were celebrated by his Alma Mater, St Munchin’s College.
In a special ceremony held at the college, Mr Madden was honoured for his outstanding accomplishments and unwavering support for the school.
The event was attended by students, staff, alumni, and distinguished guests, all of whom celebrated Mr Madden’s achievements and his ongoing commitment to promoting rugby at national and grassroots levels.
St Munchin’s College also honoured past pupil Michael Carroll on his presidency of the Munster Branch 2023-2024. Mr Carroll was a Senior Cup winner in 1968.
Also up for honours was Mr Bredan Foley, current President of the Munster Branch. Mr Foley coached junior cup teams previously and watch his son, Anthony (Axel) Foley, don the blue, red, and black.
During the ceremony, Mr Madden officially launched St Munchin’s College’s annual golf classic. The event will take place at the Castletroy Golf Club on May 2.
The classic is a key fundraiser for the school, with proceeds going towards enhancing educational facilities and supporting extracurricular programs.
Principal Shane FitzGerald said “the golf committee are delighted to have the Junior Cup Team of ’98 coming in as our main sponsor this year – great gesture from a great bunch of lads”.
St Munchin’s has now opened invites for sponsorship opportunities for this year’s classic.
A team of four costs €300, including a meal afterwards. Tees and greens can also be sponsored for €100 on [email protected] or [email protected].
