Transport For Ireland Local Link meet with Minister to discuss Limerick services

Minister Niall Collins and Transport Minister Darragh O'Brien met with members of Transport for Ireland Local Link Limerick Clare.

MINISTER of State at the Department of Justice and Limerick TD Niall Collins and Transport Minister Darragh O’Brien met with Transport For Ireland (TFI) Local Link Limerick Clare to discuss challenges in service delivery on Shannonside.

Deputy Collins (FF) said that TFI Local Link services are hugely important to connecting rural communities, providing a network of bus services all who want to travel to or from ย Limericks towns and villages.

The ministers had a โ€œproductive conversationโ€ with Anne Gaughan, transport operations co-ordinator for Limerick, and Marie Oโ€™Connor, general manager at TFI Local Link Limerick Clare respectively, Deputy Collins explained.

“We discussed their range of bus services in the county and the challenges they face delivering services in the Limerick area.

“Minister O’Brien is committed to helping them work to solve the issues they face, as we are all aligned that we need to make sure as many people as possible can benefit from this hugely important and beneficial community transport service.โ€

Minister O’Brien also spoke at the Greenway and Active Travel Conference in the Strand Hotel, which came in tandem with his announcement that the government is investing โ‚ฌ360million in walking and cycling infrastructure this year.

“This has been a productive visit to Limerick, where I discussed the latest on transport infrastructure in the county and how challenges in delivering local link services can be overcome,โ€ Minister Oโ€™Brien stated.

“I was particularly pleased to be in Limerick to open the Greenway and Active Travel Conference, which brought together over 250 delegates here to discuss how active travel and greenway projects across Ireland can be advanced.โ€

The Minister said the government is investing โ‚ฌ360million in greenways and active travel nationally, including โ€œsignificant investmentโ€ in local projects, which he says have been โ€œtruly transformational for people right across Limerick”.
