NATIONAL roads in Limerick will benefit from funding of €83million for maintenance and repair works this year.
That’s according to Arts, Media, and Communications Minister and Limerick TD Patrick O’Donovan, who said that €83,319,267 had been to allocated to Limerick for maintenance and repair works for roads across the county, including the delivery of the Foynes to Limerick Road, the Adare Bypass, the M20 Limerick to Cork Road, and relief roads on the N21 at Abbeyfeale and Newcastle West.
“This is in addition to €502million of Exchequer Capital funds for national roads through Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) in 2025. An additional €98million has also been provided for National Roads under Public Private Partnerships,” Minister O’Donovan said.
The funding will also go towards lighting along national primary routes and pavement renewals, as well as verge works at Barnagh, Abbeyfeale, Adare, Murphy’s Cross, Pallasgreen, Grange Cross, and Ward’s Cross.
Minister O’Donovan welcomed the announcement that €33m is also being provided to local authorities nationwide for regular maintenance of national roads.
“The allocation for protection and renewal of the existing national road network will fund a range of activities including road safety improvements, pavement renewal, maintenance of bridges and structures, and measures to ensure the network can withstand the increased number of severe weather events,” Minister O’Donovan said.
TII will allocate the funding in support of protection and renewal of the existing national road network; progressing new road projects that are in or near construction; and progressing new road projects in the development pipeline.
