No timeline or funding for delivery of park in Groody area

THERE is currently no timeline for the delivery of a new park in the Groody Valley, councillors have been informed.

At the March meeting of the Metropolitan District, Labour Party councillor Elena Secas asked for a delivery timeline of the proposed park in the Groody area as part of the Green and Blue Infrastructure Strategy’s implementation.

Aidan Finn, from the Council’s Environment and Climate Action Department, explained the purpose of specifically mentioning this area in the strategy was to highlight its potential as a park and to ensure it is retained as green space, given its proximity to residential areas and the importance of green spaces for health and wellbeing.

“The Council can consider the delivery of this project in due course and are cognisant of its delivery as part of other development plans for the area. There is currently no funding in place for the delivery of the project,” Mr Finn revealed.

The aim is to inform and guide the planning and management of green and blue spaces in Limerick City and environs, including our rivers, parks, and open green spaces, helping drive the transition to a low carbon and climate resilient society.
