PROGRESS is being made on the delivery of new basketball courts in Mungret Park, with a clear path now in place to the access point and gates set to be installed at the long-awaited sporting facility in the coming weeks.
That’s according to Fine Gael councillor Daniel Butler, who told the Limerick Post that access arrangements and legal formalities are currently being finalised between Limerick City and County Council and the Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board.
Cllr Butler commended both organisations for their commitment and efforts in bringing this much-needed sporting facility to the community.
“The hope is that access to the courts will be available in time for the Easter break, though this remains dependent on everything proceeding as planned,” the City West representative told the Limerick Post.
As a former basketball player himself, and also as a father, the Fine Gael councillor for City West said that he understands the need for more recreational facilities for young adults in the area, and remains committed to delivering this important project.
“This is an exciting development for Mungret and the wider community,” Butler enthused.
“Sport and recreation play a crucial role in young people’s lives, and providing more facilities like these courts will encourage participation, social engagement, and healthy lifestyles.”
Cllr Butler told this newspaper that further updates on the timeline for public access for the new Mungret basketball courts will be provided as the final steps in the process are completed.
