LIMERICK ace James Naughton set a new football record with an astonishing haul of 4-12 in Sunday’s League win over Waterford at Mick Neville Park, Rathkeale.
The St Senan’s star grabbed from an incredible 4-3 from play as Limerick breezed past the visitors, 4-24 to 1-17.
Naughton overtakes from the late Frankie Donnelly (Tyrone) as the highest individual scorer in an inter-county game.
Donnelly’s record of 4-11 in a Dr Lagan Cup match against Fermanagh had stood since 1957.
The snug win secures promotion to Division Three for Limerick, along with a Final with Wexford at Croke Park next Saturday, 5.30pm.
A week later, Jimmy Lee’s side host Cork in the Championship opener at the Gaelic Grounds.
