Limerick man pleads guilty to cocaine charges

The case was heard in Limerick Circuit Criminal Court.

A LIMERICK man has been remanded on bail for sentencing after he pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine for sale or supply, possession of cocaine, and having ingredients for the production of cocaine.

Evan McNamara (31), of St Munchin’s Street, St Mary’s Park, appeared before Limerick Circuit Criminal Court and affirmed guilty pleas that he had previously entered at Limerick District Court.

Mr McNamara admitted seven separate drugs offences, including possession of cocaine worth more than €13,000, which carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in jail, unless the court finds exceptional circumstances were involved.

He pleaded guilty to one count of possession of cocaine for sale or supply to another, and one count of possession of cocaine, at the Dublin Road in Limerick on March 5, 2023.

McNamara also pleaded guilty to possessing cocaine for sale or supply and possession of cocaine at Flood Street, Killalee, Limerick, on March 16, 2023.

He admitted producing and possessing benzocaine, a cutting agent for cocaine production, at Flood Street on March 16, 2023.

After McNamara’s entered his seven guilty pleas, Judge Colin Daly told him that “the matter now goes back for sentence”.

Judge Daly remanded McNamara on continuing bail too appear before Limerick Circuit Court for sentencing on April 11.
