URGENT action has to be taken on the large class sizes in primary schools across Limerick city and county.
That’s according to Sinn Féin senator Joanne Collins, who hit out that the latest government figures show 66 primary schools on Shannonside as having more than 30 pupils.
Senator Collins said that “large class sizes have a significant impact on the quality of education our children receive” and can leave teachers severely overburdened.
“This is particularly concerning at primary level, where the foundations for future learning are laid,” Senator Collins said.
She called on the government to hold good on its promise to reduce the pupil-teacher ratio to 23:1 and “step up and deliver the investment and support our schools and pupils urgently need”.
