WITH three wins – over London, Carlow, and Tipperary –  on the trot, Limerick are in the mix for promotion from Division Four of the National Football League.

Jimmy Lee’s charges, however, face a difficult assignment away to Wicklow in Aughrim on Sunday (2pm).

Limerick have plenty of players in fine fettle, such as Josh Ryan, Colm McSweeney, Iain Corbett, Paul Maher, Bob Childs, James Naughton, and Emmet Rigter.

Captain Cillian Fahy remains sidelined through injury, while Danny Neville is back in the fold after a spell on the treatment table.

After this weekend, Limerick have another winnable final round home fixture against Waterford on March 23.

Another couple of victories would also place Limerick in the frame for the Divisional Final next month, which would represent a serious upturn in the fortunes of a team who only recently won against London in Ruislip its first league fixture in 17 attempts.

In the Ladies’ National Football League, Limerick surely made safe Division Three status with a quality 2-9 to 1-3 defeat of Carlow at Moylish Campus.

Deborah Murphy of Monagea emerged as top scorer with an impressive 1-5, while Limerick’s other goal came from Knockainey’s Caoimhe McNamara.

Meanwhile, John O’Grady-managed Limerick face Waterford in round two of the Munster Under-20 Football Championship at Fraher Field, Dungarvan on Saturday (2pm).

Last weekend, the side suffered a heavy loss to Tipperary at Rathkeale’s Mick Neville Park.

On an afternoon when scores were at a premium for the home side, only captain Diarmuid Hynes (Mungret St Paul’s), Evan Curry (Athea), Tom Llyod (Mungret St Paul’s) and Tom Ryan (Oola) raised flags.
