ALLIANCE Française is a non-profit organization promoting French language and culture.
In 2024, the Alliance Francaise De Limerick celebrated 80 years of its existence in Limerick with a year-long celebration and several events including a concert, an artist’s talk in the Hunt Museum.
The organisation was honoured with a civil reception by the Mayor Cllr Gerald Mitchell, celebrating all of the cultural and educational contributions that it has created in Limerick over the past eight decades.
“All of our teachers are native French speakers, qualified and experienced at teaching French as a foreign language. Through regular assessments they will follow your progress closely and advise you personally. Our small groups have a maximum of 12 students allowing you to feel at ease and benefit from more individual time with your teacher. We also offer individual classes at times convenient to your schedule,” a spokesperperson said.
However, offering French lessons by experienced native speaker teachers is not the only thing that Alliance Francaise does. It supports the Honorary Consul of France in the Mid-West: Dr Loic Guyon and is a centre for culture for the French community in Limerick as well as from francophones and francophiles here too.
A monthly Cine club shows French language (with subtitles) films, art classes, and food and wine events are also a regular feature on the agenda too.
The Alliance Française also offers French classes in primary and secondary schools around Limerick. It is linked to FLAM, where children whose mother tongue is French can come together to learn and get together.
The Limerick Wild Geese Festival is a project of the Alliance Française de Limerick and supported by the nonprofit, as is the Sarsfield Homecoming project. These two projects were founded and are overseen by Dr Loic Guyon.
