RESEARCHERS at Mary Immaculate College (MIC) have published a report into the effectiveness of Irish language book clubs in Irish medium settings at primary and post-primary level.

The research focused around the Club Leabhar scheme, which aims to provide opportunities for primary and secondary-level children to engage in independent reading and foster engagement with the Irish language.

“Our research highlights the positive impact the Club Leabhar scheme has had in encouraging independent reading through Irish among primary and secondary school students,โ€ the researchers commented.

โ€œThe feedback from children themselves was particularly insightful, with many describing how the book clubs helped make reading in Irish more enjoyable and accessible.โ€
