GARDAÍ in Limerick, acting under a nationwide anti-drugs operation, seized over €100,000 worth of cocaine in the city.
One man was also arrested in connection with the seizure, and was taken to a Garda station in the Limerick City area.
According to Gardaí, €105,000 of cocaine was seized on Wednesday March 5, following the search of a home in the area of the Shelbourne Road in the city.
It is understood that the significant cocaine seizure approximates to around 1.5 kilogrammes of the illegal drug, with a street value of €105,000.
Gardaí said the cocaine was to be sent to Forensic Science Ireland for further analysis.
A man in his 30s was arrested following the Garda search of the home on the Shelbourne Road, and detained at a Garda station in the city under the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996.
The search, seizure, and arrest was carried out under Operation Tara, an enhanced national anti-drugs campaign that aims to “disrupt, dismantle, and prosecute drug trafficking networks at all levels – international, national, and local”.
Operation Tara was launched in July 2021 by Garda Commissioner Drew Harris and has been targeting the importation, distribution, cultivation, production, local sale, and supply of drugs.
