COUNCIL-OWNED land that currently accommodates Dooradoyle Men’s Shed Group is being explored as a possible site for the construction of a new community centre for Raheen, Mungret, and Dooradoyle.
Independent councillor Maria Donoghue asked at February’s Metropolitan District meeting for sites to be identified given the extent of new housing and the significant population increase in these areas.
Cllr Donoghue was informed that as part of the overall project, a community group/organisation needed to be identified as a prerequisite for the sustainability of any such centre.
She was also told that provision has now been made under the Development Fund Allocation to support the pre-development costs in certain areas including Raheen, Mungret, and Dooradoyle, which is essential to progressing such projects.
