Concerns raised over speeding lorries servicing Adare Bypass

Works on the bypass are expected to finish in June 2027, before the Ryder Cup.

FIANNA Fรกil councillor Bridie Collins raised concerns over the speed of some lorries servicing the Adare Bypass project.

Cllr Collins also said that councillors in the Adare-Rathkeale District have had numerous complaints about the conditions of the roads in and around where construction is taking place in Adare.

She called for contractors to monitor the road conditions on a weekly basis.

โ€I, myself, witnessed a really frightening lorry that came up the inside, coming off from the motorway, flew up the inside, cut right across the entrance to my turn, and bullied back into traffic, turned right then at the Woodlands roundabout, and went into the site,โ€ she told the Council executive.

โ€œThere are a lot of people on the roads around Adare that are being discommoded, and theyโ€™re really frightened of meeting one of these trucks because theyโ€™re flying.โ€

Cllr Collins said she understood that there was deadlines that needed to be met and that the contract is now under pressure, but felt road safety must be the priority.

โ€œThis is not to take away from the fact that this is a necessary project. Weโ€™re all delighted to see it funded, so letโ€™s get it delivered as quickly as possible, but letโ€™s do that in a safe manner,โ€ she insisted.

In response, the Mid West National Road Design Office said that this message has been communicated to the contractor and a briefing has been given to drivers about being cognisant of other road users in Adare.
