
BUILDING works on just 15 new homes got underway in all of Limerick city and county in the month of January this year.
Thatโs according to new figures published by the Department of Housing. The number stands as the lowest on record for Limerick for the month of January since 2017, when only nine commencements were reported on Shannonside.
The number stands far below those reported for Limerick across January 2024 (61), 2023 (45), 2022 (128), and 2021 (87). The report from the Department of Housing shows that overall, throughout last year, works on 1,532 homes got underway across Limerick City and County.
This follows 795 reported in 2023, 848 in 2022, and 755 in 2021. On a national level, figures show 66,873 homes began construction across Ireland in 2024, with 1,178 commenced nationwide in the month of January.
