Man hospitalised after aggravated burglary in Limerick City

GARDAÍ are investigating following an aggravated burglary in Limerick City this past Friday night (February 28), in which a man in his 30s was hospitalised by masked robbers.

According to Gardaí, the burglary took place at a home in the Ballysimon Road area of Limerick City, shortly after 9pm on Friday night.

A Garda spokesperson said that three masked people entered the home and assaulted a man, described as being in his 30s, while inside.

“He was taken to University Hospital Limerick to be treated for his injuries, which are believed to be non-life threatening at this time,” the Garda spokesperson said.

A technical examination of the scene was conducted by Gardaí, with the Garda spokesperson adding that investigations into the attack and burglary are still ongoing.

Following the shocking aggravated burglary, Gardaí are now appealing for “anyone with any information regarding this incident to come forward”.

“In particular, Gardaí are appealing to anyone who was in the area of Ballysimon Road and Old Cork Road, Limerick, (on) Friday 28th February, 2025, between 8.30pm and 9.30pm, and saw anything which may have drawn their attention,” the Garda spokesperson said.

They are also appealing to “any road users who may have video camera footage (including dashcam) from this area at this time” to come forward, with a particular view to “any persons who observed the movements of a dark-coloured jeep” in the area around the time.
