
LIMERICK City and County Council used 2,150 tons of salt on multiple surface treatments between January 1 and 15 last.
Labour Party councillor Elena Secas asked at a recent full meeting of the local authority about the supply of salt following the recent cold spell.
“Have those supplies been exhausted?” she asked.
Cllr Secas was informed that the Council had 2200 tons of salt stock in their depots on January 1.
“During the cold period from January 1 to 15, multiple surface treatments were carried out using a total of 2,150 tons of salt. During this period stocks were also replenished,” Senior Engineer from the Council’s Roads, Traffic and Cleansing Department, John Gannon explained.
There was 1170 tons of salt in stock as of January 15 with further delivered expected.
