Zimbabwean-Irish rapper God Knows is back with his latest single, The Art of Alienation, out now via Narolane Records. Marking the Choice Music Prize winning rapper’s first release of 2025, the track follows his EP We Move The Needle and arrives just in time for his live performance at Dolans this Saturday, March 1. Inspired by Outkast’s The Art of Storytelling, the song is a deeply personal reflection on God Knows’ experience as a first-generation immigrant growing up in Shannon. “I always wanted to tell the story of this beautiful town that I grew up in. I actually wrote the track in Shannon,” he told the Limerick Post.
The track explores alienation, a feeling of disconnection or loss of identity, particularly in the context of immigration. “The song speaks of my journey as a first-generation immigrant. I explore the rich history of Shannon and my struggles navigating my identity as both Zimbabwean and Irish.”
The single is produced and mixed by Murli (Mawuli Boevi), his longtime collaborator from Rusangano Family and Narolane. Adding to the song’s distinctive sound, Danny Lanham contributes some fine guitar and bass with a West African influence, while Godwin Jonas lends his vocals. The track was mastered by Richard Dowling at Wav Mastering.
Speaking about the themes behind The Art of Alienation, God Knows highlights the impact of modern media and misinformation. “There’s a lot of propaganda in the air because we now live in an age where everybody has the ability to be CNN or Sky News. Truth is missing, because fact-checking and balances don’t happen in the same way. No one is speaking on the hardships of the working man.”
He continues, “The Art of Alienation is not just about my upbringing—it’s about a world that is becoming more divided when we should be coming together.”
God Knows’ live show at Dolans will feature Danny Lanham, Godwin Jonas, and Murli as Musical Director—with the possibility of Murli jumping on the mic himself. Special guest on the night will be Limerick rapper Datqidexcel.
The After Show Party happens on Dolans Upper Deck right after the live shows.
