THE UNIVERSITY of Limerick has been shortlisted for the prestigious Spider Awards 2025, Ireland’s longest-running and digital awards.

The annual Spider Awards celebrate the brightest minds in the digital industry, and, organisers of the competitions say, this year’s finalists highlight the incredible innovation happening across the country.

UL has been shortlisted for Best in Storytelling Award for ‘Little Gifts, Big Dreams – A University of Limerick Christmas Story’ – a Christmas video highlighting how dreaming big and supporting childhood curiosity can bring the magic of education to life.

Filmed in a variety of locations on the UL campus, the video features local performers from the Limerick-based Gemstars School of Performing Arts and six-year-olds Fiadh Hussey and Cara Dunne, along with Fiadh’s mother Deirdre.

The video was created by UL’s Marketing and Communications team, with UL graduate and videographer Ollie Phillips.

The winners will be announced at a black-tie gala event on March 21 at the Mansion House in Dublin.

Established in 1996, the Spider Awards are dedicated to recognising companies and individuals who are driving innovation and setting new standards in digital transformation.

Organisers of the awards said this year “saw a remarkable surge in entries, reflecting the innovation and creativity thriving within Ireland’s digital sector”.

Categories such as Best in Social Media and Best Influencer-Led Campaign attracted record-breaking submissions, reaffirming the growing influence of social and influencer-driven marketing.

The Best in E-Commerce category also experienced a significant increase in entries, which organisers said highlights the continued evolution of digital retail.
