Status Yellow weather warning to come into place in Limerick tonight

A STATUS Yellow wind and raining warning will be in place in Limerick tonight and through to tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon.

The weather warning was put out by Met Éireann and includes counties Limerick, Clare, Cork, Kerry, Waterford, Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo, Wexford, and Wicklow.

Met Éireann warned of “very strong and gusty southerly winds, together with spells of heavy rain”.

Adverse conditions expected over the duration of the warning include difficult travel conditions, localised flooding, fallen trees and loose debris, and poor visibility.

The warning is due to come into place from 2am this Saturday night and continue through to 3pm on Sunday.

A Status Yellow warning is defined by the weather services as being “not unusual weather” with “localised danger”.

Average wind speeds during Status Yellow events can range between 55 and 65km/h, or 90-110km/h gusts. Rain over a 24-hour period during such warnings can be up to 55mm.
