MOVE over Francis Ford Coppola – young Limerick filmmakers are on the up-and-up having been announced among the winners at this year’s FÍS Film Awards.
The creative young Limerick pupils, who entered the renowned filmmaking contest were honoured for their outstanding work and creativity.
Currently in its 19th year, the FÍS Film Awards, which took place this year on the Dublin City University campus, celebrate the filmmaking accomplishments of Irish primary school students and their teachers.
Winners on the day from Limerick included sixth class at Milford National School with their short film Dimension Disturbance, which took the Outstanding Achievement in Filmmaking Stopmotion award.
The Milford class also won the Outstanding Achievement in Acting for their film Creative Control.
In partnership with the Institute of Art, Design, and Technology, and hosted by RTÉ’s Sinead Kennedy, the highly anticipated ceremony aimed to inspire and celebrate the creativity of future Irish filmmakers.
FÍS Film awards are presented to young students for their achievements in directing, acting, design, and music, across multiple film genres, including comedy, drama, horror, science fiction, and even films as Gaeilge.
The FÍS Film Project empowers students to put their creative skills to the test, while enhancing their collaboration skills, with access to filmmaking tools and equipment, in the supportive setting of their school.
The project introduces primary school pupils to the creative process of filmmaking, allowing them to develop storytelling, collaboration, and technological skills in an engaging and enjoyable way for all involved.
