Man charged in Castleconnell drugs raid

A MAN has been charged in connection with the seizure on Wednesday of โ‚ฌ10,000 worth of Cannabis and โ‚ฌ6,925 cash in Castleconnell.ย ย 

Two men, one in his twenties and a juvenile were arrested and brought to a Garda Station in County Limerick. They were detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 and Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996, respectively.

The older man has since been charged. He is scheduled to appear before Limerick District Court next month.

The juvenile has been released without charge, and a referral has been made to the Garda Youth Diversion Programme.

The seizure was part of ongoing operations targeting the sale and supply of drugs in the region. Gardaรญ attached to the Divisional Drugs Unit, supported by the Armed Support Unit, Dog Unit and members of Operation Croรญ carried out a number of searches in Castleconnell, County Limerick on Wednesday February 19.

Searches were carried out at seven homes. As a result, Cannabis Herb with an estimated street value of โ‚ฌ10,000 was seized. Gardaรญ also seized approximately โ‚ฌ6,925 in cash.

The drugs will be sent to Forensic Science Ireland (FSI) for analysis.

The investigation is ongoing. This seizure forms part of Operation Tara, an enhanced national anti-drugs strategy launched by Garda Commissioner Drew Harris on July 2, 2021.

The focus of Operation Tara is to disrupt, dismantle, and prosecute drug trafficking networks at all levelsโ€”international, national, and localโ€”involved in the importation, distribution, cultivation, production, local sale, and supply of controlled drugs.
