MORE than 200 Limerick citizens were declared last week at a celebration at Dublin’s Convention Centre.
The citizenship ceremonies welcomed applicants from over 130 countries who made a declaration of fidelity and loyalty to the State to become Irish citizens.
230 new Limerick citizens were declared during six ceremonies held over February 13 and 14.
Countries with the largest number of new applicants included India (914), the UK (614), Brazil (531), Romania (380), Poland (360), Philippines (241), South Africa (210), Nigeria (205), Pakistan (191), and the USA (191).
Speaking at the ceremonies, Limerick Minister of State at the Department of Justice, Niall Collins TD, said that “our new citizens are contributing to a diverse and inclusive workforce, bringing a range of skills and talents that are enhancing the capabilities of our labour market and economy”.
