Heartbreak for Treaty United

COMFORTABLY ahead 2-0 (courtesy of strikes by Richkov Boevi and Lee Devitt) on Cobh Ramblers inside the closing stages, Treaty United appeared on course for the perfect start to the new season only to be caught at the death in an a lively First Division tie at the Markets Field Stadium.

In those closing six minutes, the visitors struck three times (twice in injury time) – through Cian Coleman, David Bosnjak and Cian Murphy – to ‘steal’ the contest.

Questioned afterwards on this agonising loss on Treaty United social media, home manager Tommy Barrett said: “Ah, just lack of experience (caught us) in seeing out the game. We just didn’t kill the game, we still tried to play.”

“You know when you are two nil up you should be hitting the corners, killing the game, and we didn’t do that. It’s a difficult one to take for the lads, because for 83 minutes or whatever I thought they were very, very good.”

“We knew they’d be dangerous from set-pieces; we knew they’d stay in games; they’ve a big bench and they are probably favourites to win the league.
