GARDAÍ in Henry Street Garda Station are looking for any witnesses to a shocking group assault on a woman in the city centre.
According to local Gardaí, three people, two men and a woman, attacked the victim on Ellen Street, in the heart of Limerick City, last Friday night into Saturday morning (February 8) at approximately 1am.
The woman, who is in her 30s, was returning from a night out socialising in the city when the assault took place. Gardaí said she was walking alone when she was approached by two men and one woman, all strangers to her.
One of the men became verbally abusive towards her and an altercation followed, which resulted in the woman being hit in the head and punched in the mouth by one of the men and knocked to the ground.
This man was described as wearing a denim jacket with a cream woolly collar and denim jeans. The group ran away following the attack in the direction of the Milk Market.
The injured woman contacted a relative who picked her up from the scene and took her to University Hospital Limerick, where she received treatment for an injury to her head.
Sergeant Michelle O’Halloran, Crime Prevention Officer at Henry Street Garda Station, is appealing to “anyone who may have been in the Ellen Street area, perhaps socialising or maybe taxi drivers in the area collecting or dropping off fares, to contact Gardaí at Henry Street on 061 212400, if you have any information in relation to this assault”.
