GARDAÍ are hunting for the driver of a silver coloured car which struck and injured a Garda in a housing estate on the outskirts of Limerick City on Monday of this week (February 10).
Gardaí appealed for witnesses to the “incident of endangerment” which is understood to have taken place in the Brú na Gruadán estate Castletroy at around 6.30pm on Monday.
A Garda spokeswoman told the Limerick Post that the injured Garda was on foot at the time the hit-and-run took place, and that the driver fled the scene after they had hit the officer.
The hit-and-run happened when the on-duty officer was responding to an unconnected call in the area.
“Gardaí, while responding to an unrelated incident, were alerted to a vehicle in the area travelling on false license plates. A car was identified and during an attempt to coordinate a controlled stop, the car struck a Garda and fled the scene,” the Garda spokeswoman explained.
The Garda victim was taken to University Hospital Limerick for treatment, after sustaining what the Garda spokeswoman described as “non-life-threatening injuries”.
Investigating Gardaí appealed “for anyone who was in the Brú na Gruadán estate, Castletroy, County Limerick, and surrounding areas between 6.00pm and 6.30pm” to contact them.
“Any persons with mobile phone or dashcam footage are also asked to make that footage available,” added the Garda spokesman.
Gardaí can be contacted at the Henry Street Garda Station 061 212400, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
