LIMERICK City and County Council spent over €200,000 dealing with illegally dumped waste in the Metropolitan District last year.
Responding to Social Democrats councillor Elisa O’Donovan at Janury’s Metropolitan District meeting, councillors were informed that a cost of €209,814 was incurred by the local authority for illegally dumped waste in Limerick City, not including staffing costs or plant hire.
In addition, €30,000 was spent on bulky waste collections and the installation of CCTV to combat illegal dumping.
Some of the most frequent locations for illegal dumping in 2024 were St Mary’s Park, Ballinacurra Weston, Lenihan Avenue, City Centre Laneways, Coonagh/Clondrinagh, Johnsgate, and Kilmallock Road.
The cost of cleaning illegally dumped rubbish last year amounted to €96,800 for cleansing, €69,666 for regeneration, and €43,348 for domestic waste and litter.
