UB40 outdoor show adds Ska legends The Selecter

The Selecter join UB40 on August 24.

THE Irish exclusive outdoor show from the legendary UB40 feat Ali Campbell on Sunday August 24 at TUS Gaelic Grounds just got even better with ska icons The Selecter & Beatles Dub Club joining them on the bill alongside Damien Dempsey for a massive day of music !

The Selecter is led by their iconic front woman Pauline Black OBE. One of very few women in the 2-Tone scene, she is often referred to as the Queen of Ska. Known the world over for hits including “Three Minute Hero,” “Missing Words,” “Too Much Pressure” and “On My Radio” The Selecter recently supported Blur at London’s Wembley Stadium . The anarchic passion that fuelled Selecter gigs during the original 2-Tone era is still there as they continue to perform at festivals and venues around the world.

Beatles Dub Club takes you on a magical mystery tour of a  collection of covers, remixes and tracks that sampled arguably the greatest band that ever existed – The Beatles. Expect to hear plenty of reggae, ska, latin, hip hop, dub, funk, house and even drum & bass takes on the wonderful music created by John, Paul, George and Ringo.

Fuelled by the voice that powered UB40 to 70 million record sales and over fifty UK chart hits, Ali Campbell,  and the latest incarnation of his extraordinary band,  will take his legendary reggae sound on tour next year with the Gaelic Grounds playing host to this exclusive outdoor show.

Last year marked 40 years since the release of UB40’s seminal album ‘Labour of Love’ on 12th September 1983, which produced the groundbreaking hits that will be performed on this tour such as ‘Cherry Oh Baby’, ‘Many Rivers to Cross’, ‘Please Don’t Make Me Cry’, and of course the ubiquitous ‘Red Red Wine’ which topped the charts on both sides of the Atlantic and Ireland. Further hits from across the band’s career such as ‘Kingston Town’, a cover of ‘I Got You Babe’ with Chrissie Hynde, and ‘(I Can’t Help) Falling In Love With You’ helped the band and Ali Campbell become the authentic voice of UK Reggae, with a total of 70 million records sold, as they took their smooth yet rootsy musical blend to all corners of the globe.

Building on a legacy that dates back 45 years to his formative years in inner-city Birmingham, singer and guitarist Ali’s touring ensemble remains the most authentic realisation of UB40’s original aim of advancing reggae in all its guises.

‘I think I’ve got the best reggae band in the world” says Ali “we can play in the UK, Africa or an island like Fiji, and people will be buzzing afterwards”
