FINE Gael councillor Liam Galvin has called on Limerick City and County Council to expedite the Flood Relief Scheme in Athea after recent rainfall nearly caused flooding in the West Limerick village.

Cllr Galvin was informed at January’s Newcastle West area meeting that the preferred option for the scheme has been identified and environmental assessments are currently being reviewed and finalised.

The Council explained that it will seek approval from the Office of Public Works to submit the scheme to An Bord Pleanála for planning subject to achieving a positive outcome of the cost benefit assessment.
