Goalkeeping role for Gillane

JASON Gillane has been given the nod to keep goal for Limerick in Saturday night’s glamour National Hurling League opener with Cork at Páirc Uí Chaoimh (7.30pm).

The 24-year-old replaces the injured Nickie Quaid, while back-up for the role is with Shane Dowling.

Kyle Hayes has been chosen at centre-back.

Adam English and William O’Donoghue form the midfield partnership.

A young attack is led by new captain Cian Lynch.

Speaking on the RTÉ GAA podcast ahead of team selection, Kilkenny great Jackie Tyrrell said: “It’s definitely a curious time for Limerick supporters. And it’s probably the first time that John Kiely (manager) has been really challenged in terms of the year that has just gone by, it wasn’t good enough.

“So he can’t go back with the same 15. He can’t go back with the same ideas. He needs to come with something different. So that poses a question on how ruthless he is?”
