THE Limerick Gift Card programme, introduced in November, led to over €100,000 being spent locally in its first month.
That’s according to Miconex, the fintech firm behind the Town and City Gift Card Programme, who said that in the 12 towns and cities nationwide who has signed up to the scheme, over €10.5million worth of cards had been bought.
The Limerick Gift Card saw over 500 cards bought, with a total value of €180,000, which can be spent in shops across Limerick city and county.
Delivered in partnership with Limerick City and County Council and Limerick Chamber, the Limerick Gift Card is an alternative to national gift cards, and helps to ensure that money is spent in local businesses, giving them a much needed boost.
CEO of Limerick Chamber Michelle Gallagher said that the sales of the gift card in its first month are encouraging.
“As we begin the new year, we are really encouraged to see the growth of the Limerick Gift Card programme, which has already seen over 500 cards sold and a total value of €118,000 purchased.
“Its success to date has been a testimony to the people of Limerick who have embraced this programme and supported it, and this initiative has proven to be an invaluable asset for our local economy, directly supporting Limerick’s businesses and community,” Ms Gallagher said.
Looking ahead, the Chamber chief said they hope to build on the success of the Limerick Gift Card into 2025.
“We are excited to build on this momentum and continue to drive even greater success for our city and county towns, ensuring that every gift card purchased has a lasting impact on our local economy.
“It’s easy to purchase online and never been easier to spend, with over 170 local businesses signed up to accept the gift card and growing,” she added.
