Shannon Rowing Club's Ken McDonald (second from right) has set a new national record.

KEN McDonald (Shannon RC) set a new National Record with victory in the Men’s Open 500m Lightweight at the Irish Indoor Rowing Championships at the University of Limerick.

His remarkable time of 1 minute, 24.2 seconds was a mere .2 of a second off  the World Record.

For good measure, McDonald also claimed gold in the 2,000m event.

The talented oarsman is the current World Indoor champion 50+ Lightweight over both distances.

He is a multiple World champion and World Record Holder.
