Fresh facelift for revamped Pallaskenry Garda Station as sole Garda returns to home base

Garda Alan O'Donnell, pictured with Chief Superintended Derek Smart and Superintendent Mike Flemming, was delighted to get back to his post in Pallaskenry.

AFTER a temporary sojourn in Askeaton, the sole Garda holding down the fort at the Pallaskenry Garda Station has returned to his post and is primed and ready for duty.

That’s because the local Pallaskenry Garda Station had been shuttered for the previous 10 months as refurbishment works were carried out on the one-storey nerve centre of policing operations in the County Limerick town.

Modernisation works to the station were carried out, through the Office of Public Works, since last March and finalised this month, seeing Pallaskenry Garda Alan O’Donnell back on home turf.

Garda O’Donnell had a 10-month pitstop at the Askeaton Garda Station while the works were ongoing, where he continued to work hard to serve the people of Pallaskenry.

New improvements to Garda O’Donnell’s station include a new wheelchair ramp and microphones in the public office to ensure greater accessibility for people with hearing impairments.

A new solar-powered water heating system was added to the station, along with new windows, LED lights, and external insulation for improved energy efficiency, along with an electric vehicle charging point.

A Garda spokesman said that the upgrade of the station “falls in line with the Modernisation and Renewal Programme launched by An Garda Síochána to ensure that the organisation can meet present and future policing and security challenges, and to provide supports for Gardaí to enable them to work effectively in delivering the national policing and security service”.

Garda O’Donnell can be reached at the new and improved Pallaskenry Garda Station on 061 393 102.
