According to the NCT figures, 128,548 cars (seven per cent the over 1.7 million cars tested in 2024) nationwide were classified as “fail dangerous” at NCT test centres, rendering them unroadworthy, an increase of 4.9 per cent since 2020.

The lowest NCT pass rate was recorded in Cavan (39.4 per cent), followed by Leitrim (42.1), Monaghan (43.5), Roscommon (44.3), Longford (44.6), and neighbouring Clare (44.9).
