GARDAÍ are investigating a number of burglaries in the suburbs of Limerick City in recent weeks.

Overnight on Friday January 3 into Saturday January 4, two burglars forced entry into a house in Cherry Drive, Glen Cairin, Dooradoyle, after 2am by breaking the lock on the front door.

The homeowner disturbed the intruders and they fled the house. The would-be burglars were described as dressed in all black and wearing balaclavas.

Sergeant Michelle O’Halloran, Limerick’s Crime Prevention Officer, said that an “investigation is currently being lead at Roxboro Road Garda Station, with an appeal to any witnesses who may have been in the Glen Cairin area of Dooradoyle, perhaps dropping someone home or taxis operating in the area to come forward”.

Anyone with information should contact Roxboro Road Garda Station at 061 214 340 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.

Meanwhile, investigations have been launched into a burglary and a number of car thefts in Ardnacrusha on the outskirts of the city.

There was a house broken into in the Keelgrove area and two vehicles stolen belonging to the owner in the early hours of January 6 some time after 2am.

Burglars broke their way into the home and during the course of the burglary took the keys to both cars – a 171 Blue BMW 430 and a 192 Orange BMW330 – which were then stolen from the driveway.

The vehicles have not yet been recovered, and Gardaí at Mayorstone Garda Station are investigating. Anyone who may have information on the theft is asked to call 061 456 980.
