New face of crime prevention in Limerick

Henry Street Garda Station.

LIMERICK has a new Crime Prevention Officer in the form of veteran crime stopper Sergeant Michelle O’Halloran, of Henry Street Garda Station.

Sergeant O’Halloran is taking over the mantle from Sergeant Ber Leetch, who recently retired from the crime prevention role to reap the rewards of over 35 years in the force.

Taking over the mantle, Sergeant O’Halloran acknowledged “the fantastic work of Sergeant Leetch, who was very well known throughout the city and county”.

“I am looking forward to continue working with the local communities and business owners throughout the Limerick division,” she added.

The new Crime Prevention Officer has racked up more than 22 years of service with An Garda Síochána, spending many of those years here in Limerick City.

Before her promotion to the rank of Sergeant, Michelle held roles in community policing as well as a period working as a detective at Mayorstone Garda Station.

She also spent a period working in the rural areas of the Clare and Tipperary divisions, before arriving back on Shannonside to be appointed as Sergeant in Charge at Henry Street Garda Station

“Throughout my career, I worked with, assisted, and supported dozens of victims of crime and their families through criminal justice system, and now I look forward to operating at a preventative level assisting and advising the communities, businesses, and retailers,” Sergeant O’Halloran said.

And she is putting proactiveness to the fore as she gets into the role, starting as she means to go on, letting the community know that she can be contacted on [email protected] or through any local Garda station in Limerick.
