ONE prolific Limerick actress was sure to be taking a bow this Tuesday after she received an astounding 13th nomination for the Irish Film and Television Awards (IFTAs).

Oscar nominated Ruth Negga, born in Ethiopia and raised Limerick, has no shortage of strings to her bow, from her 2017 best actress Oscar nomination in Loving to her critically acclaimed performance of singing legend Shirley Bassey.

However the Limerick lady, who attended the former Scoil Carmel on O’Connell Avenue, chalked up a new personal milestone this week receiving her 13th nomination at the IFTAs.

Negga is nominated in the best supporting actress category for her performance in Presumed Innocent. The Apple TV hit crime series sees her star alongside Hollywood actor Jake Gyllenhaal, who was recently nominated for a Golden Globe for his role in the show.

The local star, who has long been an ambassador for Limerick’s Catalyst International Film Festival, rose to fame following her memorable roles in Neil Joran’s Breakfast on Pluto, performing alongside Cork’s Oscar winner Cillian Murphy, and later in Stuart Carolan’s iconic Love/Hate.

Her other nominations are for well-loved shows and films including Preacher, Love/Hate, Misfits, Shirley, Passing, Agents of SHIELD, and Isolation.

She has taken home IFTA gongs on two occasions, in 2012 for best actress in Shirley and again in 2017 for her leading role in Loving.
